I would like to speak about the power of the mind and its ability to focus. The best way to approach this is to select any ideation of thought about health, and see how long you can hold it in your mind without losing concentration by thinking of other things.
Do you realize that you have a real live magic genie that is available to you at any time? That real magic genie is your own mind. But just like any other genie, it needs to be trained and unfortunately, most Westerners undergo very little in the way of mind training techniques.
If you have not experienced any form of mind training, you will probably only be able to hold concentration for a few seconds. But I would like to make this a more pleasant exercise, rather than a tedious chore, so we are going to accomplish two things at once here.
If you have good health, it is one of the greatest blessings there is. If your health is not so good, you can assist yourself with this simple exercise. So sit in a comfortable chair, with your arms gently resting on your thighs. Take a couple of deep breaths, in through the nose, and sigh the breath out through your mouth. Just gently breathing in and out. Then breathe as you normally would, through your nose.
Starting at your feet, let your mind wander up your lower legs to your thighs, then to your abdomen and lower back. Be aware of any tightness or tension or any physical problem as you let your awareness wander up your body. Continue moving up through your chest and your upper back, always observing anything out of the ordinary. Then continue up through your neck, your throat, your facial features, all the way to your scalp.
You should now be vaguely aware of any condition in your body that may be tight or tense; but regardless of any prevailing conditions, see yourself as you would like to be. If this is hard for you, imagine a radiant sun sitting on top of your head that has the ability to shine like a torch right down through your body dissolving away any impediment until you can hold and concentrate on a more perfect picture of health in your body. Hold this mental image for as long as you can, without thinking of other things.
Do this exercise everyday, and each time you concentrate, form a more perfect image of your health. After a while you will begin to notice the benefit of this mental exercise, insofar as your tensions will begin to melt away and you will begin to experience a peaceful and more relaxed state.
